The Chandelier
Earlier this week, The F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts, 71 Public Square, Wilkes-Barre, announced the creation of a new concert series. “Live from the Chandelier Lobby,” will be held in the confines of the theater’s main lobby and will focus on specific musical genres throughout the coming seasons. The series features general admission seating with an estimated capacity of approximately 300 patrons – so to say the shows will be intimate is an understatement.  A string of singer-songwriters will kick off the series during the first half of 2014. Alejandro Escovedo is the first confirmed artist for the new series. Escovedo, a celebrated singer-songwriter with a roots rock/alternative country style and former No Depression Artist of the Decade, visits the Kirby Center lobby on Tuesday, April 15 at 8 p.m. Additional artists will be announced in the near future.
Tickets for the Escovedo performance are $29.50 and go on sale Friday, January 10 at 10 a.m. (Kirby members can purchase their seats beginning Thursday, January 9 at 10 a.m.).

The Wish List
An intimate setting with singer-sogwriters? That sounds amazing. Who would I love to see take part in series? Let me name a few.
How about Andrew Bird, Mike Doughty (Soul Coughing), Eef Barzelay (Clem Snide), Glen Tilbrook (Squeeze), David Lowery (Camper Van Beethoven, Cracker), Evan Dando (Lemonheads), Bob Mould (Husker Du, Sugar), Paul Westerburg (The Replacements), Justin Townes Earle, David Bazan (Pedro the Lion), Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cuite, Postal Service), Frank Turner, Ben Folds and Billy Bragg? Any one (or two) of these musicians would do! Thanks in advance!

Here’s what’s in my headphones this week: Chris and Rich Robinson Brothers Of A Feather: Live At The Roxy (Eagle Records) 2007.
